Assisi is a magnificent hilltop town (yes, they all seem to be on a hilltop) in Umbria. You've probably heard of St. Francis of Assisi, well this is the place. The Cathedral of St. Francis was beautiful. You can't imagine the artwork and architecture that went into building these ancient churches. In 1997 an earthquake hit the town, but they've rebounded well, with few scars showing.
